ERM Announcements, June 17, 2024

Dear ERM Community,

I look forward to seeing many of you one week in Portland at the 2024 ASEE Conference next week! Before you scroll to read about the opportunities for involvement and employment in the engineering education community, I wanted to amplify information about the ERM program at ASEE. My appreciation to Vice Chairs for ERM Programs: Dr. Bruce Carroll and Alejandra Magana. Further, thank you to Micah Lande for collating the program into an accessible way to navigate the conference. Find resources to support your ERM experience at ASEE 2024 summarized here:

Note that the Distinguished Lecture this year is Dr. Cynthia J. Atman of the University of Washington. Co-sponsored with DEED, it is scheduled for Monday, June 24 from 11am-12:30pm in Oregon Ballroom 203. The talk title is Design Signatures: A Journey from Design Expertise to Design Awareness. Talk flyer: https://erm.asee.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2024/06/Cindy-Atman-ERM-Distinguished-Lecture-2024.pdf.

The ERM Business Meeting & Annual Community Celebration & Awards Reception is Tuesday 9:15am–10:45am in Oregon Ballroom 204. It is our opportunity to recognize and award the many commendable contributions across our division.

Also note the Sunday Workshop (1:00 – 3:30 pm), Uplifting the Comunidad: A Focus on Latin* Students in Engineering Education at Today’s Colleges and Universities. This workshop, facilitated by an impressive panel of 16 speakers and moderated by Dr. Sarah Roriguez, is free to attend, but you will need to reserve a ticket in advance. Claim yours through the ASEE registration site, linked above.

Further, we also have multiple exciting special sessions beyond the expansive technical program of more than 180 papers. I want to draw attention to an ERM mainstay: Meet the Engineering Education PioneersIn this special session, early-career scholars and pioneers in engineering education have an opportunity to interact face-to-face. Session attendees will meet with pioneers in a roundtable format to ask questions, seek advice, and get feedback. The intended audience for this panel includes graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and others interested in the engineering-education community.

Finally, please note that there will be no newsletter on July 1. The next issue after this one will be on July 15.

Hope to see you soon!

James
