Applications and nominations are being accepted for the position of Chair and Professor of the newly founded Department of Engineering Education (DEE) at the University at Buffalo. The candidate will be a visionary leader who significantly impacts the direction of the department and provides leadership for DEE faculty, staff, students and programs in order to build the stature of the department. The successful candidate must have outstanding credentials in engineering education and research and an overarching interest in facilitating the growth of a department.

3. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Research Fellow, Industrial & Operations Engineering, University of Michigan

Researcher seeks to hire a post‐doctoral fellow to work on collaborative research projects that focus on: 1) the examination of mentoring relationships, practices, and programs and 2) the impact of social community and resiliency on the engagement and persistence of undergraduate engineering students. The post-doctoral fellow will work directly with Dr. Joi Mondisa, Assistant Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering and Engineering Education Faculty Member at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

Responsibilities: The primary duties of the post‐doctoral fellow are to: perform literature reviews and meta-syntheses; conduct semi-structured interviews; analyze quantitative and qualitative data; mentor graduate and undergraduate students; participate in collaborative project meetings of the team members; present research at conferences; and draft manuscripts for peer‐reviewed publication. The post‐doctoral fellow work is expected to be accomplished in the office/lab on the UM Ann Arbor campus. The post-doctoral fellow will participate in weekly meetings and regularly scheduled face‐to‐face meetings.

10. CALL FOR CHAPTER PROPOSALS: Handbook of Research on STEM Education (1st edition)

Edited by: Carla Johnson, Margaret Mohr-Schroeder, Tamara Moore, Lynn Bryan, and Lyn English

Globally, there has been a shift in education to emphasize STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education as a means to better prepare K-12 students for for global citizenship as well as college success and/or entering the workforce with the knowledge and skills to be successful. Research on STEM integration (involving more than one of the disciplines) is expanding and the Handbook of Research on STEM Education aims to synthesize, through an international lens, time-honored and contemporary research on the integration of one or more of the STEM disciplines within a curricular, instructional, structural, or other educational programming format, culminating in a bold vision for the future of STEM education. We would like to have broad-span and narrow-span foci to reflect the many exciting research endeavors out there. We are seeking to include research on issues related to, for example, STEM focused schools, integrated STEM curriculum and instruction, STEM out-of-school learning experiences (see suggestions attached) .

The editors have partnered with Routledge/Taylor & Francis to publish the Handbook of Research on STEM Education – slated for publication in 2019. We are currently seeking chapter proposals to be considered for inclusion in the handbook. We are interested in chapters about the topics below, as well as your ideas for other potential chapters that may not be in the initial outline for the handbook. Authors may consider working in writing groups that are interdisciplinary, with expertise encompassing more than one of the STEM disciplines and/or countries of origin.

Chapter abstracts must be submitted no later than Friday, February 23, 2018 to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/STEMHandbook All abstracts will be peer-reviewed and decisions will be shared with submitting authors no later than May 15, 2018. 11. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Designing Student-Centered Learning Experiences 2018 Summer Institute at Olin College

The 2018 Collaboratory Summer Institute, Designing Student-Centered Learning Experiences, http://www.olin.edu/collaborate/collaboratory/summer-institute/, will be held June 4-8, 2018, at Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts. The Olin Collaboratory Summer Institute is an intensive week-long immersion designed to provide participants from around the country and around the world with the opportunity to conceive and catalyze change in education.

Designing Student-Centered Learning Experiences is a weeklong interactive workshop for faculty teams engaged in a curricular change effort at their own institution. Through participatory workshops, immersive design exercises, and presentations from experts, teams of faculty learn about, experience, and practice effective, engaging teaching approaches for new and meaningful STEM curricula. Through the Summer Institute experience, we aim to create a learning environment for participants that

· Embraces creativity, prototyping, iterating, and dreaming big,

· Introduces a set of tools, concepts, and language about student-centered experience design,

· Promotes exploration of your context in a new way and provides insight into what we do here at Olin, and

· Builds community among educators, change agents, designers, and learners.

Alongside participants from other institutions, you and your team will develop concrete action plans for curricular change. Sessions are highly participatory and you will be challenged to continually consider new ideas and put novel approaches into practice. Institute attendees will acquire a new lens through which to view their projects, an expanded repertoire of techniques and solutions, and concrete steps to take their plans forward. Past attendees have included Deans, experienced and new faculty, staff, instructional designs, and faculty developers to name a few. All participants should be prepared to spend the full week deeply engaged in this demanding program. Applicants must apply in teams of at least three and describe a project (in the contemplation, planning, or execution stage) at their home institution.

Who Should Attend: The Institute is designed for faculty and administrators from a wide variety of institutions, including public, private, STEM, liberal arts, community colleges, research universities and K-12 programs, who are currently involved in a curricular change effort.

Application Guidelines: Institute applicants are asked to describe the project on which they are working. Applications will be reviewed on the extent to which the team is likely to benefit from the Institute and advance its project goals. The Cooperative and Experiential Education Division (CEED) of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) is sponsoring a research grant. This opportunity is for both experienced and aspiring researchers.

CEED seeks to promote research activity that will advance and strengthen the understanding of experiential, cooperative, and work-integrated education and internships in post-secondary education. An awarded study may sample from a variety of disciplines and ideally will include some sampling from engineering and/or computer science. Regardless, the results must have direct educational implications for the disciplines of engineering and or computer science along with the other disciplines that may be included.

The Educational Research and Methods (ERM) Division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) awards up to four (4) travel grants annually to graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, junior faculty, staff members, or senior ranking faculty who are transitioning into engineering education. The Apprentice Faculty Grant (AFG) Program is designed to encourage and honor promising new educators and/or researchers who have demonstrated commitment to innovation in teaching and/or have the potential for substantial contributions to engineering education research. Each grant consists of honoraria of up to $2,000 that is intended to cover travel and conference expenses. Responsibilities: The primary duties of the post‐doctoral fellow are to: perform literature reviews and meta-syntheses; conduct semi-structured interviews; analyze quantitative and qualitative data; mentor graduate and undergraduate students; participate in collaborative project meetings of the team members; present research at conferences; and draft manuscripts for peer‐reviewed publication. The post‐doctoral fellow work is expected to be accomplished in the office/lab on the UM Ann Arbor campus. 5. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Graduate Research Assistant in Education Innovations in Hydrology & Water Resources Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette

A Graduate Research Assistantship in Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, with a focus on engineering education research, is available at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, USA. The opportunity is preferably available for students who have or are graduating with a MS and want to pursue a PhD, but students who are graduating with a BS and want to pursue a MS will also be considered.

The graduate student will work on a new 4-year project (HydroLearn) funded recently by the National Science Foundation. The project will focus on developing the HydroLearn web-based platform to support faculty to develop, share, and adopt active-learning innovations in key areas of hydrology and water resources engineering. The HydroLearn platform will build on recent developments by the investigators in hydrology education (HydroViz), data sharing (HydroShare) and water resources web apps (Thethys).

Applicants with a strong interest in education research and assessment, with a specialty in hydrology and water resources, are strongly desired. The position offers unique opportunities to work with a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in hydrology and water resources; hydroinformatics; web-based developments; computer science; education assessment; and communication and outreach. The project also offers opportunities to use the National Water Model to develop the HydroLearn educational resources.

The 48th Annual Frontiers in Education (FIE) conference committee invites you to submit an abstract to present at the 2018 conference. FIE is a major international conference focusing on educational innovations and research in engineering and computing education. We welcome submissions related to educational issues and innovations in computing and engineering at the graduate, undergraduate and pre-college levels.

The 2018 conference theme is Fostering Innovation Through Diversity. 8. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Designing Student-Centered Learning Experiences 2018 Summer Institute at Olin College

The 2018 Collaboratory Summer Institute, Designing Student-Centered Learning Experiences, http://www.olin.edu/collaborate/collaboratory/summer-institute/, will be held June 4-8, 2018, at Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts. The Olin Collaboratory Summer Institute is an intensive week-long immersion designed to provide participants from around the country and around the world with the opportunity to conceive and catalyze change in education.

Designing Student-Centered Learning Experiences is a weeklong interactive workshop for faculty teams engaged in a curricular change effort at their own institution. Through participatory workshops, immersive design exercises, and presentations from experts, teams of faculty learn about, experience, and practice effective, engaging teaching approaches for new and meaningful STEM curricula. Through the Summer Institute experience, we aim to create a learning environment for participants that

· Embraces creativity, prototyping, iterating, and dreaming big,

· Introduces a set of tools, concepts, and language about student-centered experience design,

· Promotes exploration of your context in a new way and provides insight into what we do here at Olin, and

· Builds community among educators, change agents, designers, and learners.

Alongside participants from other institutions, you and your team will develop concrete action plans for curricular change. Sessions are highly participatory and you will be challenged to continually consider new ideas and put novel approaches into practice. Institute attendees will acquire a new lens through which to view their projects, an expanded repertoire of techniques and solutions, and concrete steps to take their plans forward. Past attendees have included Deans, experienced and new faculty, staff, instructional designs, and faculty developers to name a few. All participants should be prepared to spend the full week deeply engaged in this demanding program. Applicants must apply in teams of at least three and describe a project (in the contemplation, planning, or execution stage) at their home institution.

Who Should Attend: The Institute is designed for faculty and administrators from a wide variety of institutions, including public, private, STEM, liberal arts, community colleges, research universities and K-12 programs, who are currently involved in a curricular change effort.

9. CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Cooperative and Experiential Education Grant

The Cooperative and Experiential Education Division (CEED) of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) is sponsoring a research grant. This opportunity is for both experienced and aspiring researchers.

CEED seeks to promote research activity that will advance and strengthen the understanding of experiential, cooperative, and work-integrated education and internships in post-secondary education. An awarded study may sample from a variety of disciplines and ideally will include some sampling from engineering and/or computer science. Regardless, the results must have direct educational implications for the disciplines of engineering and or computer science along with the other disciplines that may be included.

10. CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Camp Engineering Education AfterNext, Purdue University

This is a call for provocateurs and reflectors along themes related to the dystopian futures of our present moment, employing a “back to basics” approach that articulates first principles, arguing again, before a new generation of learners, for those things we value and seek to preserve and maintain – those things that will sustain the generations of engineers coming of age in and grappling with our brave new world. Camp AfterNext will take place in West Lafayette, Indiana July 23-27, 2018. With a relaxed and informal feel, the event will open up time and space for deep reflection and contemplative action that will refresh and refocus our work ahead. We do ask that teams commit to being present at Camp AfterNext the entire time.

We request 1- to 2-page proposals (Deadline March 15, 2018) from teams of 3-5 people assembled from within and beyond the space of engineering education researchers. We especially encourage participation from outside the field, including academics from other fields, people who work in industry, government, or non-profit sectors, community members, and others. The proposal should lay out plans for the following:

The provocateur will author a 5000 word-limit white paper along a theme responsive to the prompt above (Deadline for the white paper: July 1) and attend the AfterNext meeting
Two to four respondents will agree to spend time in deep reflection on the white paper over the space of the conference (July 23-27) and craft responses (individual or joint) to the white paper. Response length is no more than 1000 words. (Deadline for responses: September 1)
