Chemical Engineering: The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown invites applications for a Visiting Professor in the new Department of Chemical Engineering available beginning in the Fall of 2017. This position requires broad knowledge in the areas of chemical engineering with a focus on Process Control and Design. Broader areas include thermodynamics, transport phenomena, reactive processes, systems design, systems dynamics and modeling, product design, safety and ethics, and foundations. The position also requires teaching service courses in basic engineering science and chemistry as required. The Chemical Engineering Department will offer a broad-based B.S. in Engineering. The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is an undergraduate teaching college and the primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to teach the equivalent of four courses (lecture and laboratory) per term. A Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering and a minimum of three years of relevant industrial experience are required, as well as excellent communication skills. Professional registration and previous teaching experience are a plus. The position involves working on a Department of Education research grant that aims to improve the spatial skills of middle school math students. The project is currently in year 3 and is collecting intervention data. In total, over 9,000 students across multiple states are participating. Job responsibilities will include data entry, data analysis, attending research meetings, and collaborating with others on the project. The ideal candidate is meticulous and pays attention to detail to ensure correct data entry, has prior statistical background and work in educational research.

A fully (100%) online Certificate in Engineering Education (CEED) program is open for registration at Utah State University (USU). Developed by leading practitioners and researchers in the Department of Engineering Education at USU, the program provides an excellent opportunity for engineers, engineering faculty members, graduate students, and trainers in industrial companies to improve their teaching or training skills. The program includes four online courses offered in two semesters, with two courses in each semester and seven weeks for each course. The four online courses focus on, respectively, 1) effective teaching and learning in engineering, 2) assessing learning and teaching in engineering, 3) engineering course design, and 4) e-learning course and training development in engineering. In addition, the program offers an online concurrent teaching internship course to enable CEED students to build a comprehensive professional teaching portfolio, demonstrating teaching expertise to pursue enhanced career opportunities.

8. CALL FOR PAPERS: TALE, the IEEE Education Society’s Asia-Pacific Conference
TALE (http://tale2018.org/) is the IEEE Education Society’s flagship Asia-Pacific conference, catering to researchers and practitioners with an interest in engineering/technology education and educational technology. TALE 2018 will be held in Wollongong, on the spectacular South Coast of New South Wales, Australia, close to Sydney. The theme of the conference is “Engineering Next-Generation Learning.”

The final, extended paper submission deadline is August 24, 2018. All accepted and registered papers that are presented at TALE 2018 in the Academic Stream will be published in the conference proceedings and submitted to the IEEE Xplore® digital library. Content loaded into Xplore is made available by IEEE to its abstracting and indexing partners, including Elsevier (Scopus, Ei Compendex), Clarivate Analytics (CPCI—part of Web of Science) and others, for potential inclusion in their respective databases. Opportunities to publish revised and expanded versions in Scopus-indexed journals may also be made available to authors of selected papers.
