3. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: INVITE TO VIRTUAL CARD SORTING ACTIVITY FOR DEVELOPING A RESEARCH IMPACT FRAMEWORK
As an active member of the engineering education research community, you are invited to participate in a virtual card-sorting activity that will contribute to the development of a framework that characterizes what it means for engineering education research and development (R&D) to have an “impact”. By participating in this study, you will develop a better understanding of how “research impact” is defined in scholarly literature, advance our understanding of what it looks like in our context, and contribute to the development of a shared language among engineering education researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders. This research is supported by National Science Foundation grant number EEC-1564629. (If you participated in Fall 2016, you can ignore this invitation.
The activity will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Your responses will be confidential, and anonymous; and you are free to exit the activity at any time. If you choose to participate, please complete the activity within the next two weeks. 4. CALL FOR PAPERS FOR SPECIAL ISSUE ON MODELING AND SIMULATION IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION
Contributions are invited for a special issue of the Computer Applications in Engineering Education on Modeling and Simulation Practices in Engineering Education. The key theme in this special issue is to identify effective modalities/methodologies, specific learning outcomes, types of learning, reasoning processes, and assessment methods associated with modeling and simulation practices that effectively align disciplinary engineering knowledge with modeling and simulation skills. Submissions focusing on learning about modeling and simulation skills, or learning through modeling or simulation, are encouraged. Submissions focusing on the integration of engineering and modeling and simulation practices at the K-12 level are also welcomed.

9. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: RESEARCH EXPERIENCE ON NEURONAL NETWORKS IN EPILEPSY AND MEMORY
The NeuroNEM Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) is a 9 to 10 week summer program for undergraduate students to work collaboratively on brain dynamics research projects related to neuronal networks underlying epilepsy and memory. The program provides financial support, educational and career advancing opportunities, with hands-on graduate-level laboratory research experience and guidance by dedicated mentoring faculty and research staff at Universities across three states: Louisiana Tech University, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at Little Rock (UAMS). The program is supported by research funds from NSF (National Science Foundation OIA/EPSCoR grant #1632891).
REU program dates

– Undergraduate students from all US institutions who have at least completed their freshman year and will not be graduating before the start of the program.

10. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: RESEARCH EXPERIENCE ON THE INTERNET OF THINGS (IoT) FOR UNDERGRADUATES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA
The Computer Science Department at the University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL) will hold a ten-week 2017 Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) on the Internet of Things http://iotreu.cs.ucf.edu/. REU students will be trained in research-based theory and applications of the technologies used in this fast-moving interdisciplinary field. The REU students will join well-established research groups under the close supervision of faculty with expertise in security, privacy, hardware design, data analytics, healthcare simulations, and social computing.

11. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: RESEARCH FELLOW — INDUSTRIAL & OPERATIONS ENGINEERING, UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
Researcher seeks to hire a post‐doctoral fellow to work on collaborative research projects that focus on: 1) the examination of mentoring relationships, practices, and programs and 2) the impact of social community and resiliency on the engagement and persistence of undergraduate engineering students. The post-doctoral fellow will work directly with Dr. Joi Mondisa, Assistant Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering and Engineering Education Faculty Member at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
The primary duties of the post‐doctoral fellow are to: perform literature reviews and meta-syntheses; conduct semi-structured interviews; analyze quantitative and qualitative data; mentor graduate and undergraduate students; participate in collaborative project meetings of the team members; present research at conferences; and draft manuscripts for peer‐reviewed publication.
The post‐doctoral fellow work is expected to be accomplished in the office/lab on the UM Ann Arbor campus. The post-doctoral fellow will participate in weekly meetings and regularly scheduled face‐to‐face meetings.
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a STEM field, engineering education, higher education, psychology, sociology, or a related field. A demonstrated ability to work/collaborate with others and work independently.
Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: conducting engineering education/higher education/social science research using qualitative and/or quantitative research methods; instrument development and assessment; analyzing data; strong oral and written communication skills.
12. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: FOUNDING CHAIR FOR THE SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL, CIVIL, AGRICULTURAL, AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
I’m writing to bring to your attention a new leadership position being advertised within the UGA College of Engineering. Over the past four years enrollment in our college has tripled to 2,000 students and we have hired about 50 new faculty and staff. Due to our growth our college has created three new interdisciplinary Schools, including one in Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering.
Our college is seeking an exceptional individual to be the “Founding Chair” for the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering within our college. It is an exciting opportunity since the new Chair will be able to lead the growth of a new academic unit within a well-established, Top 20 public university. The position will be similar to that of a department head or department chair with the added focus on enhancing the interdisciplinary connections across programs.
This could be an opportunity for somebody with an engineering education background to have an impact on a larger scale and shape the face of engineering education at the level of an entire college.
