  1. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Queer in Stem Anthology Project

 

We invite you to contribute to an anthology of creative and academic works around queerness/LGBTQIA+ in STEM. We define STEM broadly and include social sciences.

 

Our goal is to self-publish a collection of materials to be mainly distributed in print to our Boston campus community, but also to be made available online publicly to everyone.

 

If this interests you, we would welcome any contribution that you’d be willing to provide. For example, options include but are not limited to:

– Poems

– Short stories

– Editorials/opinion pieces

– Short autobiographical narratives

– Photographs

– Drawings/artwork

– Other scholarly works

 

Please note that it is perfectly acceptable to use a pseudonym or be published anonymously if you so choose.

 

This project is supported by the Full-Time Faculty Professional Development Fund (FTFPDF) at Northeastern University, awarded to Prof. Andrew Gillen (a.gillen@northeastern.edu) and V Royzen (royzen.v@northeastern.edu).

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Chemical Engineering Active Learning Initiative Postdoctoral Scholar in Engineering Education at Cornell University

 

The Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our Active Learning Initiative (ALI) team as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Engineering Education. This position is part of an exciting project aimed at deconstructing the existing Unit Operations Laboratory course and developing new inquiry-based learning modules to be embedded across the curriculum to achieve our vision of making the School a “living laboratory.” The postdoctoral scholar will work directly with Professor Allison Godwin, a tenured engineering education faculty member in CBE. The impacts of this change will be studied using both qualitative and quantitative tools to understand how active and open-ended problem-solving throughout the curriculum affects student learning, identities as engineers, motivation, and career pathways.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

– Develop innovative inquiry-based modules using existing and new equipment. These modules will involve developing an open-ended problem, scaffolded learning and feedback, and assessment.

– Coordinate implementation efforts with a team of chemical engineering faculty excited to transform the curriculum.

– Collect and analyze data on the impact of these changes using various research methods, such as surveys, interviews, and observations.

– Contribute to the preparation of research reports and scholarly publications.

– Present research findings at conferences and seminars.

– Assist in the supervision and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students involved in the project.

 

Requirements:

– A B.S. in Chemical Engineering

– Ph.D. in Engineering Education, Engineering, or a related field.

– Demonstrated expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.

– Experience with data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

– Excellent oral and written communication skills.

– Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team.

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in STEM Education or Engineering Education at Arizona State University

 

Dr. Verdín is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to join her team and help with efforts toward infusing culturally responsive instruction and gamification in an engineering design activity for high school students. The role will be funded by a National Science Foundation grant: BCSER: Empowering Children of Migratory/Seasonal Farmworkers with Gamification and Culturally-Responsive Engineering Design Instruction (NSF# 2225306). This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead a transformative project to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes through culturally responsive instruction and gamified approaches. The successful candidate will help build foundational knowledge on how high-quality STEM-enrichment culturally responsive gamified activities support migratory students’ exposure to engineering, foster STEM identity development, cultivate a critical STEM agentic perspective, and promote STEM career pathways.

 

The successful candidate will work directly with the principal investigator, Dr. Dina Verdín at Arizona State University (ASU).

 

Required Qualifications

 

– Ph.D. in Engineering Education, Science Education, STEM Education, Educational Psychology, Sociology, Learning Sciences, or related fields.

– Must have demonstrable skills in reviewing and synthesizing literature related to K-12 (preferred) or Higher Education.

 

Responsibilities and Activities:

 

This project is entering its second year; the PI has already developed and deployed multiple culturally responsive gamified activities. The PI seeks a candidate to take the developed activities to a new level, improving modifying, and/or creating extensions to the existing activities. Additional responsibilities and program activities include:

 

– Supervising project logistics, facilitating internal and external communications, and managing documentation, timelines, and reports.

– Collaborate with the project team to design, iterate, and implement a culturally responsive gamified activity for high school students aimed at teaching the engineering design process.

– Articulate 360 Storyline will be used to create modifications, extensions, etc. to the culturally responsive gamified engineering design activity. The candidate will be required to work with Arduino sets and/or TinkerCAD as part of the activity.

– Conduct thorough literature reviews and research to inform the design process, ensuring alignment with best practices and emerging educational trends, cultural responsiveness, and gamification.

– Assist in data collection (i.e., interviews and surveys), analyze data, and disseminate research findings.

– Present ongoing research findings at national conferences and engage with policymakers in the field of STEM education.

– Mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Engineering Education Internship Position at NREL

 

We have a summer position for a graduate student intern in STEM at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado. The graduate student intern will work with our scientific staff on the project “Understanding and evaluating graduate student pathways into sustainability-focused computational science research”. The project focuses on understanding how internships in advanced computing at NREL contribute to students’ careers and to diversifying the computational science work force. The graduate student intern’s finding will be reported to NREL management. We also expect to submit our findings to the peer-reviewed engineering education literature.

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Postdoctoral Associate in Engineering Education at University at Buffalo

 

The Department of Engineering Education (DEE), in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join Dr. Courtney Faber’s research group: ENLITE – Exploring Knowledge, Learning, and Identity to Transform Engineering Education. The initial appointment is for one year with possibility for an additional year of renewal. The ENLITE research group is passionate about exploring how fundamental beliefs about knowledge and knowing create barriers to learning and collaborations. The ENLITE research group is currently conducting work in two areas: (1) Developing educational experiences that consider epistemic thinking and (2) Empowering engineering educations scholars to impact change in engineering.

 

This position will be mentored by Dr. Courtney Faber and supported by local engineering education communities in the Department of Engineering Education at University at Buffalo (UB). There will also be opportunities to participate in professional development held by SEAS and UB.

This Postdoctoral Associate position is a full-time appointment in which you will conduct research with Dr. Faber, participate in professional development activities, and have the opportunity to design your own study. Additional responsibilities include:

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Founding Faculty and Program Director Positions at a New Work-Based Learning Software Engineering Program

 

These tenure-track positions are for two founding faculty members, including one program director, to launch and support our department’s new undergraduate work-based software engineering (SE) program, in the College of Science, Engineering, & Technology at Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU), located in the. The upper division SE program includes a one-semester residential “Academy” that takes place in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. Students then move on to four semesters of working at paid co-op position in industry combined with virtual/distance study with our faculty.

 

Candidates with at least five years’ professional experience working as a software engineer, or in a closely related job position are encouraged to apply.   1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Multiple Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Integrated Engineering Practice-Based Learning Programs

 

Iron Range Engineering (IRE) at Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU) in the Department of Integrated Engineering is hiring up to three tenure-track faculty (Assistant /Associate Professor or Professor). IRE is a practice-based upper division engineering program located in Virginia, MN. At IRE, students who have typically finished their lower division coursework at a community college earn their degrees by completing one intensive project semester followed by two years of co-op and learning experiences. Interested candidates with a doctorate or terminal degree in Engineering, Engineering Education, or closely related field are encouraged to apply.   1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Tenured Associate Dean Sustainability in the new Sustainable Systems Engineering Program, University of Calgary

 

The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary invites applications for the position of Associate Dean, Sustainability Engineering. This is a key leadership position within the Schulich School of Engineering (SSE). The Associate Dean appointment is a five-year term, renewable subject to review. The successful candidate will be offered a tenured academic appointment at the Professor level.

 

This position is a unique role, because our SUSE (sustainably systems engineering) program is a brand new program with the first students having started in September 2023. The successful candidate will really get to set the direction of the first set of curriculum updates, research program, and culture of the student and faculty group.

We are seeking a doctoral student for a graduate research assistantship in the Department of Engineering Education at Utah State University. The assistantship is sponsored by a collaborative research grant through the NSF Innovations in Graduate Education (IGE) Division to a team of researchers at Utah State and Boise State Universities.
