To send an announcement to the ERM listserv, please prepare a 2-3 paragraph description including any relevant URLs and contact info as well as a subject line. Do not include any attachments. Be sure that the announcement includes the person to contact with questions. Email all of this information to Sarah Zappe at ser163@psu.edu with [ERM Announcement] in the subject line to facilitate email sorting. Announcements will be sent out on the 1st and 15th of each month. Each set of announcements will be included in the announcements email twice. 2. ERM ANNOUNCEMENT: ERM Brouhaha Feedback Survey

The ERM Directors and incoming Program Chair seek feedback from all ERM members on the ERM Brouhaha for future planning purposes. Held at the ASEE Annual Conference, this event is meant for meeting and reconnecting with fellow ERM Division members and celebrating the accomplishments of award recipients. 3. ERM ANNOUNCEMENT: Request for feedback on Apprentice Faculty Grant for ERM

The Apprentice Faculty Grant (AFG) Committee is revisiting and evaluating the purpose of the AFG to ensure that it aligns with the goals of ERM and the current state of the engineering education field. As part of this process, the committee developed a survey to gain a better understanding of the beliefs and opinions about AFG from the members of ERM. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and will be open until September 7th. Thank you for taking the time to give your input!

4. WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT: Identity to Impact Workshop

Are you an early career researcher that would like to learn how to better communicate the impact of your research? Do you know an early career researcher who fits this description?

On Oct. 23 in Arlington, VA, Dr. Jeremi London (Virginia Tech) will host From Identity to Impact, a half-day, capacity-building workshop for early career researchers. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: 1) Clarify facets of their engineering education identity that link their current role with their desired impact and 2) Effectively articulate the impact of their engineering education research & innovation (EER&I) projects.

5. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: University of Michigan – Multiple Tenure-line Positions in Higher Education

The School of Education at the University of Michigan seeks multiple colleagues for tenure-track appointments (open rank) in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education. We seek applications from scholars situated in one or more of the following research areas: access, choice, and/or enrollment in postsecondary education; teaching, learning, and student experiences in higher education, including in STEM fields; postsecondary outcomes; state policy; and organizations and leadership.

The College of Engineering’s Engineering Education Research graduate program maintains close ties to Higher Education Program through faculty collaborations on curriculum and research, and through the preparation of doctoral and master’s students interested in the study and improvement of engineering education at all levels. 6. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Visiting Researcher in STEM Education at Indiana University

Please consider applying for our visiting researcher position in STEM education at Indiana University – Bloomington. The position requires work across two NSF-funded projects related to the study of making and engineering education. Work on these projects primarily includes qualitative data collection and analysis – particularly of videos and interview data. We are looking for someone with strong skills in social science research methods and analysis, writing, and a demonstrated interest in making and STEM education, with specific experience in engineering or engineering education. The goal of the primary project is working with kids and caregivers on engineering challenges. The second project involves researching an engineering outreach program with upper elementary school children. Salary is competitive, and the position comes with benefits. The appointment is for one year with possible extension dependent on satisfactory performance review and continued availability of funding. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until filled. Start date is targeted for October 1, 2019 – September 30, 2020 and the position requires residency in or frequent travel to Bloomington.

Minimum qualifications: A completed doctorate in engineering education or a related field by the time employment begins; research experience and publications in STEM education; strong writing and communication skills; demonstrated experience in collecting and analyzing video and interview data. Preferred qualifications: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively; expertise in making and/or engineering education.

7. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Associate Director of Engineering Learning Initiatives at Cornell University

The College of Engineering at Cornell University seeks a dynamic individual for the position of Associate Director of Engineering Learning Initiatives. The Associate Director collaborates with the Director and Administrative Coordinator, and with teams of undergraduate and graduate student leaders, on the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that promote educational excellence and peer-facilitated collaborative and applied learning in the College of Engineering. Key program leadership responsibilities include the Graduate and Undergraduate Engineering Teaching Assistant Development Programs; the Academic Excellence Workshops (AEW) collaborative learning program; and the Tutors-On-Call peer tutoring program.

Master’s degree required, PhD preferred. Five to seven years experience in STEM education, program administration in higher education environment, or equivalent combination. 8. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Tenure Track Positions at the University of Cincinnati

The Department of Engineering Education (DEE) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for multiple tenure-track positions at all ranks. Candidates will be expected to conduct research in one or more of the following research areas: (1) engineering epistemologies, (2) engineering learning mechanism, (3) engineering learning systems, (4) engineering diversity and inclusiveness, and (5) engineering assessment. Commensurate with rank, faculty will be expected to: develop (or advance) a nationally/internationally recognized, externally-funded research program in engineering education; advise graduate students; teach graduate and undergraduate courses in engineering education (including but not limited to first-year engineering courses); perform service at the Department, College, University, and professional societies levels; nurture collaborations across the college and campus; and work to achieve departmental, college, and university strategic goals. The Department is charged with developing and sustaining premier research programs and with preparing students to become high-performing professionals in the workplace. Faculty will be expected to further these goals by collegial collaboration and teamwork both within the Department of Engineering Education and with other CEAS departments and other UC Colleges.

9. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Director of Learning Sciences Research at Georgia Tech

The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering seeks a Director of Learning Sciences Research who has a strong interest in solving learning challenges in higher education. This new position will focus on creating a design studies approach to further the continuous improvement of the department’s inclusive pedagogical approaches. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with our faculty, students, and other stakeholders to create and evaluate learning interventions that will foster students’ inclusive leadership skills and promote their learning and success.

This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenure track academic professional faculty position with a combination of teaching (no more than one course per term), research on the scholarship of teaching and learning, and administrative responsibilities. Administrative responsibilities, representing roughly half the total responsibilities, will be primarily focused on the undergraduate programs with some synergistic activities that cut across both the graduate and undergraduate programs.
