1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Inaugural Chair for the Department of Engineering Education, University of Buffalo

Applications and nominations are being accepted for the position of Chair and Professor of the newly founded Department of Engineering Education (DEE) at the University at Buffalo. The candidate will be a visionary leader who significantly impacts the direction of the department and provides leadership for DEE faculty, staff, students and programs in order to build the stature of the department. The successful candidate must have outstanding credentials in engineering education and research and an overarching interest in facilitating the growth of a department.

The candidate will provide strategic and academic leadership in education, interdisciplinary research areas, service, and engagement activities. As the Department’s chief administrative officer, candidates will provide effective management for all academic, administrative, budget and personnel decisions.

The candidate must hold a doctorate in engineering, engineering education or a closely-related field and must qualify for tenure at the rank of professor. In addition, s/he, should have achieved distinction in university-level teaching and research and should have an established record of scholarship, administrative ability, and academic leadership. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an understanding of the field of engineering education and to articulate a vision for the future of engineering education as a field of research and practice.

2. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Instructor, Department of Mechanical Engineering University of South Florida

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Florida invites applications for one 12-month non-tenure position at the Instructor level starting August 2018. Applicants in all the areas of mechanical engineering discipline including design, manufacturing, and fluid/thermal systems with programming experience are encouraged to apply for this position. This position requires an earned doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with preference to relevant experience. The position requires a strong interest in teaching, supervision of student design projects, and developing new undergraduate mechanical engineering laboratory experiments. Prior teaching experience and expertise in facilitating engineering design projects and programming are desired.

The department has 20 faculty members and offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering. 3. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Engineering Education Research at University of Michigan

Dr. Cindy Finelli at the University of Michigan is looking to fill a one-year Postdoctoral Research Fellow position on an NSF-funded project investigating how flexible classrooms influence instructors’ selection of learning activities, instructors’ use of formative assessment, and students’ interpretation of in‐class activities. The postdoctoral research fellow will collaborate with Cindy and her colleagues on all aspects of the project including: refining and validating research instruments; collecting, synthesizing, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data; developing and implementing professional development for instructors; and preparing conference and journal papers. The ideal candidates for this position will have engineering education research experience and a strong interest in making engineering education research their primary scholarly agenda in their future career. The one year position is expected to begin on June 1, 2018, and review of applicants will begin on March 9, 2018.

8. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Student Essay & Video Contest
The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) envisions widespread, inclusive, and equitable environments in engineering, academia, and industry that embrace individual differences and leverage diversity for a better engineered tomorrow. The 2017-2018 year celebrates ASEE’s 125 years at the heart of engineering education. The ASEE Diversity Committee honors this celebration with a focus on diverse teams in engineering and engineering education, because teamwork is at the heart of engineering. Students from a broad range of backgrounds and among various grade levels (P12, undergraduate, and graduate) are invited to share their perspective on diversity in engineering teams by submitting an entry into the essay and/or video contests. Each entry should clearly answer the prompt provided below and follow all contest rules.

Essay (300-500 words):
Prompt – Teamwork is an essential component of engineering, and diversity impacts the process and products of engineering teams. When people work together across differences in personal backgrounds, cultures, engineering disciplines, race, gender, age, and other characteristics, we can face new challenges and achieve better outcomes. Describe a time in your life when you worked on a diverse team in the context of engineering or engineering education. Discuss what you learned personally from the experience, what your team accomplished, and how diversity impacted your team.
By submitting a written essay, contestants are agreeing for it to be reviewed by editors and to slight editorial changes, mainly for clarity, made by the ASEE Prism staff. These edits will be provided to the submitter prior to publication. Publication can be anonymous, but contact information is required for authentication and approval of edits.
Video (3-5 minutes):
Prompt – Teamwork is an essential component of engineering, and diversity impacts the process and products of engineering teams. When people work together across differences in personal backgrounds, cultures, engineering disciplines, race, gender, age, and other characteristics, we can face new challenges and achieve better outcomes. Create a video that describes a time in your life when you worked on a diverse team in the context of engineering or engineering education. 9. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Workshop: PEER Collaborative peer mentoring workshop and unconference

Are you a junior faculty member, recently tenured faculty member or research staff person who is primarily evaluated on their engineering education research? The PEER Collaborative is a growing community of people in a similar situation who peer mentor each other in engineering education research matters.

The 2018 PEER Collaborative National Workshop is scheduled in parallel with the ASEE Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, UT on June 28. Specific locations and times are still TBD. 10. CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Cooperative and Experiential Education Grant

The Cooperative and Experiential Education Division (CEED) of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) is sponsoring a research grant. This opportunity is for both experienced and aspiring researchers.

CEED seeks to promote research activity that will advance and strengthen the understanding of experiential, cooperative, and work-integrated education and internships in post-secondary education. An awarded study may sample from a variety of disciplines and ideally will include some sampling from engineering and/or computer science. Regardless, the results must have direct educational implications for the disciplines of engineering and or computer science along with the other disciplines that may be included.

As part of an NSF-funded study, a team is seeking participants from broad range of engineering disciplines whose members may be engaged in education across all ASEE Professional Interest Councils and every ASEE PIC division. The purpose of the study is to determine the extent to which professionals from across all engineering disciplines who are involved in Computer Science Education & Engineering Education, and ways in which they may be engaged, or not, in related professional development activities (DUE-1323633). Specifically, for each completed survey, we will donate a nominal amount ($1) to support students or other professionals in professional development activities in a manner decided by ASEE Division leadership.
