5. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: SUPPORTING DIVERSE PARTICIPATION IN STEM
The Annual Conference of the Canadian Education Association (CEEA), will be hosted by the University of Toronto on June 4-7th 2017. This conference will also include a Special Symposium on Supporting Diverse Participation in STEM, co-chaired by the Science Education Research Group of the Canadian Society for Studies in Education (SERG/CSSE). CEEA brings together diverse scholarly individuals and companies interested in STEM initiatives from around the world in an inclusive, accessible forum (more info at: https://ceea.ca/en/). The conference also features a banquet to be held at beautiful Casa Loma, a historic castle overlooking the City of Toronto.

At this symposium, we’ll explore research and best practices in encouraging members of diverse communities to pursue, persist and flourish in STEM. All participants interested in presenting are asked to submit an abstract, using the required format for CEEA paper proposals (please refer to the CEEA call for papers (at https://ceea.ca/en/conferences/papers/?id=10)). As part of the symposium, we hope to include a variety of session types including workshops, technical sessions, lightning talks and a poster session to provide participants with rich interactive experiences.

If you’d like to contribute, and/or have questions, please contact Prof. Chirag Variawa atchirag.variawa@utoronto.ca

Including a short description of your ideas/contributions will help facilitate logistics and planning. Paper and workshop submission deadlines are as per conference deadlines.

6. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: 2017 INSTITUTE ON PROJECT-BASED LEARNING

The 2017 Institute on Project-Based Learning (PBL), www.wpi.edu/+2017institute , will be held June 21-24, 2017, at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts. Run by WPI in partnership with the Association of American Colleges & Universities, the Institute draws on WPI’s 40 years of experience integrating project-based initiatives into undergraduate education, and in 2017 presents special opportunities for teams focusing on engineering education.

This 2.5-day intensive workshop brings teams of five or more faculty and administrators from colleges and universities together to gain knowledge about project-based learning and make tangible progress to integrate PBL into their own curricula. The Institute includes a mix of interactive workshops, consultation with Institute faculty, and collaborative teamwork. Participants will come to the Institute with a specific goal or project they would like to advance and will leave with an enhanced understanding of PBL and a tailored plan to advance work on their own campuses. See http://wpi.today/umbc-impact-16 to learn more about how the Institute assisted the College of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County to advance initiatives on their campus.

Who Should Attend: The Institute is designed for faculty and administrators from a wide variety of institutions, including public, private, STEM, liberal arts, community colleges, and research universities, who are interested advancing project-based learning in their curricula.

Application Guidelines: Institute applicants are asked to propose a goal or a specific project they want to address. Applications will be judged on the extent to which the team is likely to benefit from the Institute and advance its project-based learning initiatives.
