Seventeen Engineering Education Graduate Research Programs will host a Virtual Multi-Institutional Showcase . The event will be held on Monday September 25th, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm EST (see the registration form and event flyer for more details). The program includes: (1)  an overview of Engineering Education Research as a field, (2) a session on what makes a good graduate application, (3) a session on identifying advisors, and (4) breakout rooms and Q&As.   1. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: 2024 WERC Environmental Design Contest – April 7-10, 2024

 

Bring your students! WERC is an undergrad engineering contest with real-world design challenges that are developed by industry and government. Effective for senior capstone or extracurricular design experience for sophomores and juniors.

 

Students “answer an RFP” by designing a working prototype at their home university, analyzing economics of scale-up, and coming to Las Cruces, NM to engage in oral, written, bench-scale demo, and poster events. Over $35K total cash awards: First Prize up to $3500/task. Chance for publication in IEEE Xplore. Judges are engineers from industry/government.

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Three Open Faculty Positions (2 Assistant and 1 Associate/Full) in the Department of Engineering Education at The Ohio State University

 

The Department of Engineering Education (https://eed.osu.edu/) at The Ohio State University (https://www.osu.edu/) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor and one tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full to start August 2024.

 

We are seeking innovative scholars in engineering education who will help further the growth of our department. The Assistant Professors will be required to individually establish a research program, secure outside funding, advise graduate students within our engineering education Ph.D. program, and teach courses across the department, including our first-year engineering program. The Associate/Full Professor will do the same while also contributing to various aspects of leadership and mentoring in the unit. These individuals will engage with the department across the various programmatic areas (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Multidisciplinary Capstone / Integrated Business and Engineering; Graduate Studies and Research; Engineering Technical Communications; Fundamentals of Engineering).

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Postdoctoral Scholar for the Elevate Research Team (PI Julie P. Martin), University of Georgia

 

I’m looking for a postdoctoral team member to join my Elevate Research Team in the Engineering Education Transformations Institute (EETI) at University of Georgia. This is an in-person position located in Athens, GA starting in January 2024.

 

If you have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; have excellent written and oral communication skills; and are eager to take ownership of and have the ability to manage multiple projects, this position may be for you! I am looking for someone who is invested in the success of the engineering education community as a whole and is highly motivated to: publish, learn about proposal preparation and grant management processes, and wants to develop the financial acumen associated with managing an academic research team, and mentor students.

 

As a postdoctoral scholar in Elevate, you will work on several new and ongoing projects related to methodological activism, social capital, research capacity building in engineering education. There is also the potential for you to serve as the editorial assistant for the Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering (JWM), where I am the editor-in-chief. As an integral member of EETI you will support our mission to be the premier model and resource for integrating scholarship & teaching in engineering education worldwide.

The T. J. We are seeking a talented individual who is passionate about teaching and is invested in the success of our students.  If you would like to be a part of a professional, collaborative team devoted to making a significant and lasting impact on the lives of young engineers, the Dr. Carl D. and H. Jane Clay Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio Northern University invites you to apply for a tenure track faculty position to begin August 20, 2024. This position will support our broad undergraduate mechanical engineering program, as well as the aerospace concentration available to students majoring in mechanical engineering. Candidates from any specialty area within mechanical or aerospace engineering will be considered.   1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Faculty Position in Mechanical Engineering, Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science, Hofstra University

The Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science at Hofstra University invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track opening at the assistant/associate professor level in mechanical engineering. Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. Preferred candidates will have expertise in machine design, modelling of dynamic systems, mechanical vibrations, mechatronics and/or similar fields. The start date for this position is September 1, 2024.

The engineering programs at Hofstra are experiencing rapid growth, and the successful applicant will contribute to the department’s ability to offer a top-tier undergraduate educational experience to our students. Hence, candidates must be effective communicators with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, be able to initiate sustained research – especially of a type that can involve advanced undergraduates – and show initiative in seeking external funding for research. Teaching Assistant Professor (Instructor) position in Aerospace Engineering Sciences

The Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences (AES) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor (non-tenure track instructor) to teach in its undergraduate program. Candidates are sought who can teach all areas of our undergraduate curriculum with an emphasis on aerospace computing, systems engineering and aerospace vehicle design, senior capstone design, spacecraft dynamics, and/or propulsion.

Viable candidates should be capable of teaching a wide range of undergraduate aerospace engineering courses in both lecture and laboratory formats. A successful candidate in this position will typically teach 5 courses during the academic year. This position typically includes an effort allocation of 80% teaching and 20% service, although allocations may vary based appointment. Research is typically not included in this position unless related to engineering education.

Apply by October 15, 2023.  The anticipated start is August 2024 with opportunity to start as soon as January 2024. The anticipated salary range for this position at the Teaching Assistant Professor rank is $88,000 – $94,000 academic year salary.

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunity in AI and Ethics at Purdue University

The School of Engineering Education and Department of Computer Information Technology at Purdue seek a postdoctoral fellow to study how undergraduate students develop self-regulated learning skills to: a) apply AI algorithms for computers to learn from data, and b) prevent potential biases in the data used to train AI algorithms, among other ethical considerations. Data collection and analysis for this project will involve mixed-methods approaches, including through use of surveys and interviews to investigate student understandings and perceptions of technical/disciplinary knowledge (e.g., AI algorithms and techniques) and associated social and ethical considerations. One central objective of this research effort is to develop new instructional materials and strategies that improve students’ conceptual understanding of machine learning techniques while also increasing their awareness of how such technologies both shape and are shaped by the social contexts where they are developed and used. The fellow will have opportunities to relate research to instructional practice by helping to pilot and assess educational interventions, while also engaging with the broader policy and outreach dimensions of this research topic through the National Institute for Engineering Ethics (NIEE).

Minimum Qualifications: 1) Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering or Computer Education, Learning Sciences, or closely related field, 2) Programming expertise and ability to learn data science and machine learning skills, 3) familiarity or interest in the societal and ethical implications of AI, and 4) strong interest in discipline-based education research.
