FIE 2024 – ERM Highlights

Hi, All –
I look forward to seeing many of you at the Frontiers in Education Conference tomorrow! I wanted to send this email out of the current cycle for two reasons.
First, I wanted to invite you to a special meeting at 9:30 am on Tuesday (10/15) in the Embassy Room. In this meeting, I have asked the ERM representatives of the FIE steering committee to meet with the ERM membership. FIE has long been a central conference to the ERM Division (in collaboration with the IEEE Education Society and the IEEE Computer Society), and the steering committee provides long-term leadership for organizing this conference. This meeting will offer a space for dialogue so that ERM members can better understand how FIE can uniquely catalyze engineering education research and scholarly teaching outcomes. This will also be a space to learn about volunteer opportunities with FIE and ERM.
I realize this occurs during the scheduled coffee break, and that was intentional to not leave anyone out. However, I also know that coffee is important—please feel free to get your coffee and come into the meeting.
Second, I want to thank the following ERM volunteers who have made FIE possible!
Technical Program Committee Chair (Sr.): Yoona Yoon
Technical Program Committee Chair (Jr.): Courtney Faber
ERM Representative for Benjamin Dasher Award: Jean Mohammadi-Aragh
ERM Representative for Helen Plants Award: Todd Fernandez
ERM Representative for New Faculty Fellow Award: Saira Anwar
ERM Representatives for the FIE Steering Committee: Rachel Kajfez, PK Imbrie, and Rebecca Reck
Thank you as well to all of you who have contributed papers to the conference, served as reviewers, and will serve as moderators.
Collectively, you have all made this an exciting and meaningful conference.
James

ASEE Abstract and Special Session Reminder

Hi all,
As the abstract deadline nears, we want to share the following reminders and requests regarding abstracts, reviews, and special session / panel / workshop proposals.
  1. Abstracts are due tomorrow 10/8 by 11:59pm Eastern. Please review the requirements in the ERM Call for Papers and ASEE Authors Kit. Specifically, please make sure your first sentence indicates the paper category (i.e., Empirical Research, Methods/Theory, or Evidence-Based Practice) and the length of the paper (i.e., Full Paper, Research Brief, or WIP).
  2. We are assigning reviews as papers come in. Please complete your reviews by October 25 to give Cass and I enough time to make decisions by November 1.
  3. Special session, panel, and workshop proposals are due by October 15. We would love to see more submissions! Please review the proposal requirements in the Call for Papers and use this form to submit your proposals.
We are looking forward to a great conference!
Best,
Jessica Deters
ERM Co-Vice Chair for Programs
