1. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Workshop to Broaden Participation in Engineering by Creating Cultures of Inclusion
The planning committee for the NSF sponsored workshop to “Broaden Participation in Engineering by Creating Cultures of Inclusion” (EEC – 1946840) invites applications for participants who will come together to 1) create an inventory of research-based promising practices that promote inclusivity and 2) design a future research agenda around creating cultures of inclusion that will inform and enhance fundamental understandings of what cultures of inclusion look like and how to achieve them.
Both researchers and practitioners with interests in broadening participation in engineering and creating inclusive cultures in engineering are encouraged to apply.
The workshop will start on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 2 pm at the conclusion of the CoNECD conference in Crystal City, VA, and conclude at 2 pm Thursday, April 23, 2020. There will be some pre- and post-workshop activity, but the intent is that the majority of the work will be done at the workshop.
Applications are due Sunday, January 26th, 2020. Participants will be selected by the planning committee and be notified no later than February 21, 2020 with additional details. A travel stipend of $500 will be offered to each selected participant.
In addition to brief background information, the application will ask for:
1. A brief statement (250 words or less) on how the applicant’s participation has the potential to advance our efforts to elucidate a set of research-based promising practices that promote inclusivity.
2. A brief statement (250 words or less) on how the applicant’s participation can contribute to designing a research agenda around creating cultures of inclusion that will inform and enhance fundamental understandings of what cultures of inclusion look like and how to achieve them.
3. A 2-page version of the applicant’s biosketch or resume.

2. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Request for External Evaluators for ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Workshop
The ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Workshop (ETW) recently celebrated 20 years of success. Information about the program can be found on ASCE’s website at: https://www.asce.org/exceed/. While regular evaluation and assessment of the program has occurred during that time, this has predominately been conducted and administered by individuals internal to the program. ASCE has set aside funds to pursue an external assessment for one of its three upcoming summer 2020 ETW sites. The goal of this external assessment is to engage three individuals external to this (or similar) program(s) to provide a comprehensive review of current practices and suggestions for future strengthening of the program. Evaluators should have experience with course and/or program development, current pedagogical / andragogical best practices, faculty training, or other relevant topic areas. Collectively, this team will evaluate the workshop in the following broad categories: topical coverage, schedule, means and process (e.g. workshop and team sizes, mentor ratios, etc.), content delivery, adoption/impact, and training/staff development. Specifics of the evaluation will be developed by the evaluation team selected in conjunction with a representative of the ASCE ETW.
Individuals must be willing to commit to attending an entire ETW workshop which begins on Saturday August 1, 2020 and runs through Friday August 7, 2020. Workshop days typically begin at 7:30 am and can go as late as 10:00 pm. The commitment would also include 2 – 3 pre-workshop conference calls and post-conference time needed to compile a final evaluation report. Evaluators will be provided a $4,500 honorarium and are responsible for covering their own travel and lodging. Transportation while at the workshop and meals will be covered by ASCE.
Interested individuals are asked to provide a current CV as well as short (200 – 300 words each) responses to the following 2 questions:
• What is your relevant experience?
• As a member of an evaluation team, what do you consider to be your evaluation area(s) of strength and what are your methods and approaches to evaluating these elements?

Notification of selected evaluators will be provided by the end of February to allow adequate time for scheduling. 3. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: First International Conference on Education and Human Development
The Center for Education and Human Development, Graduate School of Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University is proud to announce the First International Conference on Education and Human Development (EHD-1) to be held on May 16-17, 2020 in Shanghai, China. EHD-1 features the theme of “Pioneering Higher Education Innovation: Teaching and Learning in Research Universities”. It will provide a platform for global leaders, policy makers, administrators, scholars, professionals and practitioners around the world to discuss critical issues related to teaching and learning in higher education. Engineering education is an important part for this conference. Renowned speakers in engineering education will be invited.
Scholars and practitioners in engineering education are invited to address topics including, but not limited to:
Educational Innovations: In what ways may research universities initiate educational innovations to produce talents of the next generation? What educational innovations can be launched at institutional, departmental, and course levels in light of the societal and technological changes?
Multiple Stakeholders Engagement: How should multiple stakeholders (e.g. policy-makers, administrators, professors, students, employers) react/respond to the societal, economic, and technological challenges that research universities are facing? What are the best practices in enhancing the collaborative efforts between research universities and industrial, governmental and other sectors?
Student Learning Experiences: How should curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular learning activities be organized and implemented to enhance students’ learning experiences? What are the best practices in increasing students’ engagement and improving students’ learning outcomes?
Assessment and Evaluation: What assessment criteria/processes/procedures should be adopted for evaluating the future talents in research universities?

4. APPLICATIONS OPEN: Ph.D. in Engineering Education at Mississippi State University
At Mississippi State, the Ph.D. in Engineering with concentration in Engineering Education incorporates theory and practice so that its students are prepared to be teachers and scholars in the emerging field of engineering education. Engineering education incorporates theory with applied practice to prepare its graduates for a wide range of careers. The engineering education graduate program is interdisciplinary, with faculty drawn from academic departments of the Bagley College of Engineering and the College of Education. 5. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Post-doctoral scholar in arts, humanities, STEM, or social sciences with a focus on black studies at UC Santa Barbara
The Center for Black Studies Research at the University of California Santa Barbara invites applications for two postdoctoral researcher positions for the academic year 2020-21. The research areas may include the fields and disciplines within Arts, Humanities, STEM or Social Sciences with a focus on Black Studies and/or Black communities in the African Diaspora (Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia/Oceania). Part of the Fellowship (25%) is devoted to developing the Center’s programs, which may involve mentoring undergraduate research fellows. No teaching is required. The fellowship will provide a salary based on the candidate’s qualifications. Research and travel allowance may be provided. Health insurance will be provided. This position is a 12-month appointment beginning July 1, 2020 with a possibility of 2nd year appointment, upon evaluation.

8. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Lecturer in Engineering Fundamentals at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville
The Engineering Fundamentals Program (EFP) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks a dynamic Lecturer to contribute to its innovative, first-year engineering program. EFP is the home of the engage program, an integrated and team-taught freshman curriculum, and is responsible for teaching nine credit hours of common freshman coursework for each of the College’s first year students (1000 per year). Subject matters taught include physics, perspective of the engineering profession, teaming, design process with projects, engineering communication and basic computer instruction. EFP also teaches a sophomore computer programming course and other classes focused on skills for success during the transition from high school to college, and a leadership class for peer mentors who support the Engage Living and Learning Community, a 200+ student residential community for first year students in the Tickle College of Engineering. This position is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 9-month appointment. Candidates are expected to have an earned doctorate in engineering with an undergraduate degree in any engineering discipline; strongly preferred are candidates with a doctorate in engineering education. 9. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Postdoctoral Position at Mississippi State University
Apply for a full-time postdoctoral position and join a team of education, engineering, and meteorology faculty to explore integrating computational science practice, weather data analysis, and 3D visualization in the secondary Earth and Environmental Science curriculum. The planned project will use a design-based research approach to test the hypothesis that science education empowered by large-scale atmospheric datasets and fused with computational thinking and practices will: 1) promote meaningful science learning as envisioned by the Next Generation Science Standards, and 2) foster literacy in atmospheric and computational sciences among middle and high school students. Anticipated start date is Spring or Summer 2020.

10. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Lecturer, ExEEd at Rowan University
The Experiential Engineering Education Department (ExEEd) in the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track lecturer positions with primary responsibilities in undergraduate teaching. ExEEd is home to the Freshman and Sophomore Engineering Clinic sequence, a hallmark of Rowan’s innovative undergraduate engineering program featuring multidisciplinary, hands-on, project-oriented experiences. The ability to teach discipline specific engineering courses is viewed positively. The position provides an opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative projects and pedagogies in an environment where excellence in teaching is needed and valued. Although this is a non-tenure track position, the position offers employment security in two- to five-year reappointments.
Applicants must have earned a Master of Science degree, preferably a Ph.D., in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Education, or equivalent field. Industrial experience, while not required, would be very valuable. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to offer an exciting design experience in a project-based learning environment.
