What is the future engineering design education?
Provocative. Visionary. Aspirational. Innovative. Inspire us all to look forward to the future of design. Challenge our current assumptions. Consider the far-reaching and expansive or one dimension in great depth. From the lens of a student, what would learning about design be like in 2040?
Four winning student essay submissions (2 undergraduate, 2 graduate) will get to present their work as part of part of the ASEE DEED Postcard Poster Session. At the session, the winners will be honored, including the official awarding of $500 (to offset part of the cost of attending ASEE) and a certificate to each winning submission.
Submissions are due April 7, 2017
Winners will be informed no later than May 1, 2017

4. CALL FOR RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS: LOOKING FOR WOMEN OF COLOR TO PARTICIPATE IN ENGINEERING BEYOND THE DOUBLE BLIND RESEARCH PROJECT
As part of an NSF-funded project, researchers from Technical Education Research Centers, Inc. (TERC) are seeking women of color who are undergraduates or in their early careers (10 years or less from their terminal degree) who may be eligible for our research project. A limited number of women of color will be invited to participate in an interview about their lived experiences in engineering. The researchers define “women of color” as African American or Black, Asian American or Pacific Islander, Latina or Hispanic, Native American, or mixed race/ethnicity. Eligible women of color must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and in aerospace, civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering (the sub-disciplines in which women of color are most underrepresented). Interviews will last about 1.5 hours and will be conducted by telephone. Participation is voluntary; questions will cover a variety of topics, including: how you became interested in engineering, what it takes to persist and succeed in engineering, challenges and steps taken to address them, mentors and role models, and school- or work-life balance. The project is overseen by TERC’s Institutional Review Board, and all researchers are trained in human subjects research. If you are selected for an interview and then compete an interview with a project member, you will receive a $100 gift card.

A project team of education researchers at Purdue University has a position available immediately for a post-doctoral fellow. This position is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation’s Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) program. 7. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: RESEARCH FELLOW- INDUSTRIAL & OPERATIONS ENGINEERING, UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
Researcher seeks to hire a post‐doctoral fellow to work on collaborative research projects that focus on: 1) the examination of mentoring relationships, practices, and programs and 2) the impact of social community and resiliency on the engagement and persistence of undergraduate engineering students. The post-doctoral fellow will work directly with Dr. Joi Mondisa, Assistant Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering and Engineering Education Faculty Member at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
Responsibilities:
The post‐doctoral fellow work is expected to be accomplished in the office/lab on the UM Ann Arbor campus. The post-doctoral fellow will participate in weekly meetings and regularly scheduled face‐to‐face meetings.
Required qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a STEM field, engineering education, higher education, psychology, sociology, or a related field. A demonstrated ability to work/collaborate with others and work independently.
Desired qualifications:
Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: conducting engineering education/higher education/social science research using qualitative and/or quantitative research methods; instrument development and assessment; analyzing data; strong oral and written communication skills.

Job Description
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING, Office of the Dean for Undergraduate Education (DUE)-Teaching and Learning Laboratory (T+LL), to contribute to T+LL’s ongoing programs and activities and develop new services as needs arise. Responsibilities will include working with MIT faculty, teaching assistants, and other instructional staff to support teaching and learning through the implementation of research-based practices and pedagogies via workshops, individual consultations, and classroom observations; monitoring current developments in higher education STEM teaching and learning; serving as a liaison between the STEM teaching and learning community and MIT; developing online multimedia resources for MIT educators highlighting evidence-based classroom practices and findings from the learning sciences; disseminating information about teaching and learning activities at the Institute through T+LL’s blog; collaborating with other T+LL staff in the redesign of its website; supporting T+LL’s two certificate programs for graduate students and postdocs–the Kaufman Teaching Certificate Program (KTCP) and the Educational Technology Teaching Certificate Program (ETCP); and assisting T+LL’s associate directors for assessment and evaluation in studies related to the effectiveness of pedagogy, curriculum, and education technology.

Our college is seeking an exceptional individual to be the “Founding Chair” for the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering within our college.
