General Announcements

  1. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: NSF Summer Training Institute for Advanced Quantitative Methods for STEM education research
The University of Chicago in partnership with Michigan State University is launching a second three-year NSF Summer Institute in Advanced Quantitative Methods for STEM education research. The institute focuses on developing leadership among a new generation of early- and mid-career researchers of STEM education, especially those making research endeavors to promote STEM learning among students from underrepresented backgrounds. A diverse cohort of 25 NSF SIARM-for-STEM Fellows will be selected to:

-Attend summer courses in 2025 and 2026 in research designs and causal inference, measurement, social network analysis/computational methods, multilevel modeling, and causal mediation and decomposition analyses;
-Engage in round-table discussions at each summer institute;
-Receive continuous methodological support between summers;
-Complete and present a high-quality signature project in summer 2027;
-Receive support from the advisory board, expand professional networks, and develop collective leadership.

Applicants must have obtained a PhD or EdD degree by Summer 2025. Applications will be accepted through January 6. More information is available on our flyer and website. APPLY HERE.

  1. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Modern Meta-Analysis Institute Applications
Applications Invited for the 2025 Modern Meta-Analysis Research Institute
Workshop details and application submission materials are available on the MMARI website.

The Modern Meta-Analysis Research Institute (MMARI) is accepting applications for its upcoming session on state-of-the-art and accessible methods for conducting meta-analyses. This workshop is aimed at educational researchers interested in a range of disciplines including: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, psychology, education policy, social science, political science, geographical sciences, and related disciplines funded by NSF (NSF STEM Education Directorate).

The training will:
Provide researchers with a comprehensive, introductory meta-analysis workshop focused on state-of-the-art and freely accessible methods, including use of the R/RStudio statistical program. Like other introductory courses, MMARI is targeted at early-career researchers with no previous experience with meta-analysis. And, provide researchers with knowledge and tools related to Open Science principles to conduct research openly and transparently and present findings to policymakers and practitioners.

The workshop includes:
Four- and one-half days of training and one half day of group presentations. Each day will include four sessions and time to work on the group project. The integrative project will provide participants with an opportunity to practice conducting a meta-analysis. The training will be hosted in: Washington, D.C./Crystal City.

Dates:
Application due date: Monday, January 27, 2025 |
Training dates: May 19-23, 2024
Travel dates: May 18 (arrive in DC/Crystal City) & May 23 (depart DC/Crystal City)
This training is funded through a Building Capacity Grant (ECR:BCSER) from the National Science Foundation (Grant #1937642). If you have questions about the 2024 Modern Meta- Analysis Research Institute, please contact the instruction team at MMARI@gsu.edu

Position Announcements

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Two-Year THRIVE-STEM Postdoctoral Fellowship Positions Open at Rowan University
Rowan University seeks applications for multiple positions in our NSF-funded THRIVE-STEM Postdoctoral Program. Our program seeks to train the next generation of dynamic engineering education research (EER) scholars who are empowered to perform innovative education research; implement inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices; and cultivate a culture of work-life balance, enabling them to thrive as researchers in academia. Throughout the program, scholars will gain experience and autonomy in their research and teaching practices while exploring what well-being looks like for them in academia.

You can learn more about our program at our website: go.rowan.edu/thrivestem

For questions, please contact Kaitlin Mallouk (mallouk@rowan.edu)  or  Cassie Jamison (jamisonc@rowan.edu).

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Assistant or Associate Professor in the FIU School of Universal Computing, Construction, and Engineering Education
Florida International University (FIU) invites applications and nominations for an Assistant or Associate Professor in the School of Universal Computing, Construction, and Engineering Education (SUCCEED).  SUCCEED (https://succeed.fiu.edu/)  is part of FIU’s College of Engineering and Computing and collaborates closely with the university STEM Transformation Institute (a community of discipline-based education researchers and innovators, https://stem.fiu.edu/). The School houses two degree programs: a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Engineering and Computing Education. Our Ph.D. is the first engineering and computing education doctoral degree at a minority-serving institution (MSI).

Florida International University (FIU) is the fourth-largest public university in the United States and is a majority-minority R1 research university.  FIU has a vibrant STEM education research group, and there are also ample education research opportunities afforded in Dade and Broward counties which host the nation’s largest and 4th largest state colleges and two of the largest public-school districts. Faculty in SUCCEED also work collaboratively with other departments in the College (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science etc.) to conduct innovative funded education research in their discipline and advance the transformation of undergraduate engineering and computer science education.

We are seeking tenured/tenure-track faculty at the levels of Assistant or Associate Professor. More information available at the SUCCEED website https://succeed.fiu.edu/about/faculty-staff-positions/index.html.
