  1. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Impact: Redefining Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty (iREDEFINE)
 
It is our pleasure to invite graduate students in your department to apply to participate in Impact: Redefining Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty (iREDEFINE), an NSF-sponsored workshop designed to increase the number of women and underrepresented minorities (W/URMs) among the faculty in ECE departments.
 
As in past years, iREDEFINE will be held in parallel with the annual meeting of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association (ECEDHA) Annual Conference & ECExpo. The iREDEFINE Fellows will have dedicated programming designed to encourage and facilitate their path into academia. The close ties with ECEDHA provide a unique opportunity for the iREDEFINE Fellows to also attend general ECEDHA sessions, present their research to department chairs and participate in mock interviews. This year iREDEFINE will take place March 22-23, 2025, at Hilton Norfolk The Main in Norfolk, Virginia. iREDEFINE Fellows will receive a professional development grant (up to $2000) to cover registration to the ECEDHA Annual Conference, hotel accommodations, meals, and travel expenses.
 
Eligible candidates are W/URM PhD students and postdoctoral scholars, ideally no more than two years away from the completion of their PhD degree. Eligible candidates must also have an interest in an academic career. U.S. Citizenship is not required. Students are asked to complete the online application by Monday, December 2, 2024.   1. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Register Now for the STEM Education Postdoctoral Opportunities Summit on November 19
 
Are you a Ph.D. student or a recent Ph.D. graduate seeking a postdoc position in STEM education? The STEM Education Postdoctoral Opportunities Summit (a.k.a. “the Summit”) will be a virtual event on Tuesday, November 19, from 5 – 7 pm Eastern. The goals of the Summit are to connect doctoral students and recent doctoral graduates with postdoctoral opportunities nationwide, to elevate emerging scholars, and to provide professional networking pathways for a diverse pool of applicants. Doctoral candidates or recent graduates interested in applying for STEM education postdoc positions will have the opportunity to present a “pitch” about themselves, their research, and their goals for pursuing a postdoctoral experience. STEM education researchers with open postdoc positions will present information about their program to recruit applicants. We currently have over 20 postdoctoral positions lined up to be advertised at the Summit, across multiple STEM fields and contexts, so there will be something for everyone! 
 
Here’s what to do by Monday, Nov 18: (1) Register here. (The link to the registration form is also on our website.), (2) Create a slide to introduce yourself during the Summit in our shared slide deck by Monday, November 18. You can complete an introduction slide even if you can’t attend the Summit – we’ll share your information with those seeking applicants for their available positions.

The Collaborative Network for Engineering and Computing Diversity (CoNECD) conference seeks to provide a place to explore current research and practices to support the diversification of the engineering and computing professions. Some of the themes include diveristy and inclussion of gender identities, race, ethnicity, disability, and socio-economic status.
If you are a graduate student who might be interested in attending or learning more about the 2025 CoNECD conference at San Antonio, TX (February 9 – 11), we want to hear from you!
 
Please complete this brief form regarding conference attendance, conference volunteering, and your research/teaching interests. This will help us better prepare the conference to be an enriching opportunity for graduate students to learn, share their ideas, and do networking with other professionals working with similar interests.

Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor (non-tenure track) to teach courses in biomedical engineering and related areas; provide quality teaching in multiple areas of biomedical engineering and related subjects, at both introductory and upper levels; provide service to the profession and university; and advise students. The position starts Fall 2025.
 
Minimum Requirements:
Required: For appointment as an Assistant Teaching Professor, applicants must have a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering, Engineering Education, or related field by the date of appointment. For appointment as an Associate Teaching Professor, applicants must have a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering, Engineering Education, or related field by the date of appointment with a minimum of three years of full-time higher education teaching experience.

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Endowed Associate/Full Professor and Executive Director of the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education at SMU
 
The Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, TX invites qualified candidates for tenured faculty positions at the Associate and Full Professor levels to lead the Lyle School’s esteemed Caruth Institute for Engineering Education. Minimum qualifications for this position include an earned Ph.D. in the appropriate or a closely related discipline, with experience commensurate with the rank of associate or full professor. The departments for the appointment will be determined by the backgrounds and interests of the final candidates in one of Lyle’s five departments. Joint appointments either within Lyle or across SMU will also be considered.
 
The Caruth Institute for Engineering Education, in its reimagined era, will focus on the integration of contemporary topics such as sustainable engineering, data science, cybersecurity, robotics, IoT, and/or advanced manufacturing into the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The Executive Director will spearhead initiatives in cutting-edge teaching methodologies and driving innovative educational strategies. The Institute will also help to secure funding for research and educational initiatives through grants and industry sponsorships; mentor and support faculty in adopting innovative teaching methods, including AI-driven approaches, personalized learning platforms, and automated assessment tools; and enhance student learning experiences through experiential learning opportunities, advanced research projects, and industry engagement. The successful candidate will advance interdisciplinary collaboration between our five departments, enhance industry partnerships, and engage with educators and students to ensure the development of future-ready engineers.

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Two Postdoctoral Researchers at the University of Texas at El Paso
 
The University of Texas at El Paso College of Education is thrilled to announce a cluster hire of two (2) full-time Postdoctoral Fellows for the newly forming research cluster “RAISE – Research Academic-Work Integration in STEM Education.” The vision of the RAISE research center is to be an international and national leader in academic-work integration research. We aim to (a) conduct field defining research to gain comprehensive knowledge of the challenges, opportunities, and implications of combining education with employment for our students at UTEP and other Hispanic Serving Institutes (HSIs) as a model for other universities, (b) investigate students’ experiences in workplace learning, and (c) integrate labor data into workforce development planning. Research will be used for policy recommendations and the design of interventions for our and other students. 
 
The interdisciplinary team cluster is comprised of researchers in STEM education, educational leadership, socio-cultural foundations of education, engineering, and leadership of career services for students on campus.
 
Each appointment is for up to two years and renews after the first year based on funding availability and scholarly performance.   1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Director of General Engineering Tenure-Track Position at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
 
The College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) is excited to invite applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank beginning Fall 2025. In support of Cal Poly’s College of Engineering’s rapidly diversifying student population, we seek an established, tenured/tenure-track faculty scholar firmly rooted in engineering education, focusing on broadening participation in engineering to serve as the Director for the General Engineering Program. This unique opportunity includes serving as a member of the College of Engineering Council with a leadership role in promoting and achieving inclusive and equitable success in the college. We specifically desire an individual who has experience and demonstrated motivation to contribute to the universities strategic initiatives such as supporting Cal Poly as an emerging HSI (Hispanic Serving Institution) and/or the CSU Black student success initiative. The Director of General Engineering will have the typical requirements of Teaching, Scholarship and Service, but much of the service will be in a leadership position within the college. The General Engineering program is a unique program within the College of Engineering. It serves several roles including a place for undecided first year students to start their path to a degree and a program that allows a handful of students to customize their studies to reach beyond a single engineering department while receiving a broad education that addresses new or evolving areas of engineering. The program has a strong emphasis on student success, flexibility, and compassion. We particularly support students who come from historically marginalized identities or situations. Because General Engineering does not have tenured faculty, a successful candidate for this position will have a tenured home in one of the nine disciplinary departments.
