Dear All,
I hope that all of you are having a pleasant transition out of summer mode and back into the semester! Cassandra McCall and I are excited to serve as the ERM Program Chairs for the 2025 ASEE Annual Conference. We first want to thank the efforts of the outgoing ERM Program Chairs, Bruce Carroll and Alejandra Magana. We also want to thank Catherine Berdanier who, in her ERM Director Role, has led significant revisions to the ERM Call for Papers (CFP) in order to improve the process for authors, reviewers, and readers.
As our first official act as Program Chairs, we wanted to share some key publishing dates and changes made to the recently published ERM CFP (https://nemo.asee.org/uploads_public/conferences/session_owner/call_for_papers_file/0000/3102/ERM_2025_CallforPapers_Final.pdf). Please read the CFP carefully before submitting abstracts and drafts. Major changes include:
-
General streamlining to reduce redundancy.
-
Introduction of a new paper type, research briefs, which is intended to share summaries of fully completed works.
-
Reduction of maximum page lengths to 1) respond to the faster timeline by ASEE to produce the conference paper, 2) support authors in using papers as a generative step toward journal publication, and 3) reduce the overall labor invested by reviewers and program chairs in reviewing papers.
-
Enforcement of maximum page lengths at the Draft stage as well as the Final Paper stage. Papers exceeding the page limit will be rejected. Appendices and References do not count towards page limits.
- Reduction of content required for ERM special sessions and workshops. In the past, we required significantly more than what ASEE required (5 pages for special sessions and 7 pages for workshops). We have reduced the proposal length (2 pages for special sessions and 3 pages for workshops) to offer a more accessible pathway to proposing these sessions.
-
Addition of paper templates for each paper length (full paper, research brief, and work in progress). Paper templates are linked in the CFP.
The timeline is set and enforced by ASEE in the NEMO paper system, and all dates are posted on the conference website. ASEE intends for there to be no deadline extensions during this year’s paper submission process. Please add these dates to your calendars:
-
Abstracts are due on October 1, 2024 (yes – this is early!) and abstract submissions will open on September 1. Please start preparing your abstracts over this next month – we are excited to receive your submissions!
-
Special session and workshop proposals are due on October 15, 2024, in order to give the ERM leadership team enough time to review proposals. Proposals must be submitted via the Google Form linked in the CFP.
-
Drafts are due January 15, 2025 – We recognize that this deadline is earlier than past years and may still be winter break for some of us! We do not have control over these deadlines, and encourage everyone to please plan ahead!
We will be in touch throughout the process. We are looking forward to a fantastic program in Montreal!
Best,
Jessica Deters and Cassandra McCall
