  1. UPDATE FROM THE NSF: New Program Director

 

As of July 2023, Matthew Verleger will be working jointly between the Engineering Education and Workforce Development clusters in the Division. He will be working with Research Initiation in Engineering Formation (RIEF), Research in the Formation of Engineers (RFE), Revolutionizing Engineering Departments (RED), CAREER, Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and Research Experiences for Teachers (RET).   1. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Associate Editor positions available in Biomedical Engineering Education

Biomedical Engineering Education, a BMES journal, is seeking applications for the role of Associate Editor.  Founded in 2020, Biomedical Engineering Education is an interdisciplinary, international journal, impacting in our dynamic educational community through the publication of articles related to the theory and practice of biomedical engineering education at all academic levels.  Renewable for a three-year term, Associate Editors participate in the selection of reviewers and adjudicate decisions regarding submitted manuscripts.  To facilitate an inclusive selection process, we are seeking self- and peer-nominations.  Associate Editors will be selected from among a diverse group of applicants who are committed to growing and diversifying the biomedical engineering and bioengineering education community and engaging actively with a dynamic editorial team to increase the impact of the journal.

  1. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Virtual Multi-Institutional Engineering Education Graduate Research Program Showcase

 

Seventeen Engineering Education Graduate Research Programs will host a Virtual Multi-Institutional Showcase . The event will be held on Monday September 25th, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm EST (see the registration form and event flyer for more details). The program includes: (1)  an overview of Engineering Education Research as a field, (2) a session on what makes a good graduate application, (3) a session on identifying advisors, and (4) breakout rooms and Q&As.   1. CALL FOR PARTICIPATION:2024 WERC Environmental Design Contest – April 7-10, 2024

Bring your students! WERC is an undergrad engineering contest with real-world design challenges that are developed by industry and government. Effective for senior capstone or extracurricular design experience for sophomores and juniors.

Students “answer an RFP” by designing a working prototype at their home university, analyzing economics of scale-up, and coming to Las Cruces, NM to engage in oral, written, bench-scale demo, and poster events. Over $35K total cash awards: First Prize up to $3500/task. Chance for publication in IEEE Xplore. Judges are engineers from industry/government.

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Tenure-Track Position in Engineering, Elizabethtown College

Elizabethtown College is seeking an innovative and engaging faculty member to support our growing programs and increasingly diverse student body. We invite applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Engineering position to begin in August 2024. We are seeking a candidate who has a multidisciplinary background and can teach a variety of courses across mechanics, thermal-fluid sciences, introductory and capstone design, and potentially chemical engineering. The ideal candidate is passionate about undergraduate teaching, embraces innovative and evidenced-based pedagogies, mentors undergraduate students in published research, and contributes to an environment that fosters diversity, collegiality, and teamwork.   1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: EER Faculty Position at University of Michigan

The College of Engineering at the University of Michigan is excited to announce our search for an established,  tenured/tenure-track faculty member as part of our unique, interdisciplinary engineering education research (EER)  program. The faculty member hired through this search will join a community that includes eight core EER faculty –  they will conduct EER as their main form of scholarship and will be embedded in one of the traditional engineering  departments within the College of Engineering (https://www.engin.umich.edu/departments/). Accordingly, the ideal  applicant will have experience conducting world class scholarship in EER, teaching in both EER and in a traditional  engineering department, and providing service in support of both EER and an engineering department. They should  also be interested in contributing to leadership in the EER program.

Qualifications  

Applicants should have: (1) a Ph.D. in Engineering Education, STEM/Science Education, or Engineering; (2) a  minimum of an M.S. degree (or equivalent) in a science or engineering discipline; and (3) at least five years’ faculty  experience post-degree. They should have experience creating a strong and externally-funded research program in  engineering education (which includes advising graduate and/or undergraduate student researchers and producing  peer-reviewed publications), teaching EER and/or engineering courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels,  and providing service and leadership to the profession. Applicants should also contribute to our goal of eliminating  systemic racism and sexism by embracing our culture of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), and those who bring  experience in academic program leadership are especially encouraged to apply.

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: New position: Deputy Director of the Institute for Inclusive and Transformative Scholarship at Boise State University

The Institute for Inclusive and Transformative Scholarship (IFITS) at Boise State University is looking for its next leader. The Deputy Director will spend their first year helping to lead all IFITS programs while shadowing the Executive Director. Upon the retirement of the current Executive Director at the end of December 2024, the Deputy Director will step into that role. This is an incredible opportunity to have a full year of onboarding and mentorship before taking on the leadership and future direction of IFITS.

We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic leader, someone who is passionate about creating equitable and inclusive learning and research environments, has experience in a STEM discipline, truly understands the life of the university faculty member, has a passion for mentoring and development of undergraduate scholars and peer faculty, and wants to have an impact at all levels of the university.   1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Tenured or Tenure-Track Engineering Education Faculty in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Systems Engineering at Cornell University

The ROBERT F. SMITH SCHOOL OF CHEMICAL AND BIOMOLECULAR ENGINEERING (CBE) AND SYSTEMS ENGINEERING PROGRAM (SYSEN) AT CORNELL UNIVERSITY,

Ithaca, New York invites applications for a tenured or tenure‐track engineering education research faculty position (assistant, associate, or full professor) in chemical and biomolecular engineering, who will have a joint teaching and service role in CBE and SYSEN and a tenure home in CBE.

  1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Three Open Faculty Positions (2 Assistant and 1 Associate/Full) in the Department of Engineering Education at The Ohio State University

The Department of Engineering Education (https://eed.osu.edu/) at The Ohio State University (https://www.osu.edu/) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor and one tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full to start August 2024.

We are seeking innovative scholars in engineering education who will help further the growth of our department. The Assistant Professors will be required to individually establish a research program, secure outside funding, advise graduate students within our engineering education Ph.D. program, and teach courses across the department, including our first-year engineering program. The Associate/Full Professor will do the same while also contributing to various aspects of leadership and mentoring in the unit.   1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Postdoctoral Scholar for the Elevate Research Team (PI Julie P. Martin), University of Georgia

I’m looking for a postdoctoral team member to join my Elevate Research Team in the Engineering Education Transformations Institute (EETI) at University of Georgia. This is an in-person position located in Athens, GA starting in January 2024.

If you have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; have excellent written and oral communication skills; and are eager to take ownership of and have the ability to manage multiple projects, this position may be for you! I am looking for someone who is invested in the success of the engineering education community as a whole and is highly motivated to: publish, learn about proposal preparation and grant management processes, and wants to develop the financial acumen associated with managing an academic research team, and mentor students.

As a postdoctoral scholar in Elevate, you will work on several new and ongoing projects related to methodological activism, social capital, research capacity building in engineering education. There is also the potential for you to serve as the editorial assistant for the Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering (JWM), where I am the editor-in-chief. As an integral member of EETI you will support our mission to be the premier model and resource for integrating scholarship & teaching in engineering education worldwide.
