The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at the University of California,Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of temporary part‐time or full‐time qualified lecturers to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the department should an opening arise. The vibrant community of CBE is home to leading programs including an undergraduate program ranked #2 in the nation, US News and World Report; a graduate Ph.D program ranked #2 in the nation, US News and World Report 2018; and a graduate MS program specializing in product development. Our department is situated within the College of Chemistry, a small college within a large campus, with a connected and collegial feel. The College provides comprehensive student support services including peer tutoring, professional advising, career placement, and drop‐in counseling. Award‐winning student groups including chapters of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), American Cancer Society (ACS) and Chemical Engineering Car (Chem‐E‐Car) enhance the student experience, and faculty members mentor students in clubs and teams in biofuels technology, cosmetics formulation, phytoremediation, and research projects.
We are seeking a dynamic lecturer with a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education inchemical engineering and to lead multiple courses each year. The pool will remain in place for one calendar year; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply. Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed; some appointments may begin in the 2018 fall semester. Positions range from 33% to 100%. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

The Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University seeks a highly accomplished scholar and strategic leader as Director of the Polytechnic School (TPS). TPS is a multidisciplinary school with academic programs and research interests spanning a wide range of topics unified by the underlying theme of systems design in aviation, engineering education systems and design, environmental and resource management, general engineering, graphic information technology, human systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, information technology, systems engineering, and technological entrepreneurship and management. The director of the school reports to the Dean of the Fulton Schools of Engineering and is the academic and administrative leader of TPS. The Director is responsible for visioning, strategic planning, operations, finance, academic affairs, external relations and advancement. These activities include working with faculty and staff to recruit and retain high quality students, hire and develop faculty, supervise TPS support staff, create opportunities for externally funded research, development and fundraising, and build strong interactions with industry, local, state and federal funding agencies, and the greater community.
TPS currently employs nearly 44 tenured/tenure-track faculty members and 41 teaching and research faculty. All academic programs in TPS offer a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree and the school offers three Ph.D. programs: engineering education systems and design, human systems engineering, and systems engineering. TPS also includes three online programs (B.S., M.S.) in graphic information technology, information technology, and technological entrepreneurship and management. Each degree program has a Program Chair who reports to the Director and leads curriculum development and program advancement. TPS includes over 5000 students inclusive of approximately 300 graduate students, and 2300 online students.

6. CALL FOR PAPERS: Advances in Engineering Education Special Issue on “Impact-Focused Engineering Education”

We invite articles from courses and programs that 1) engage in real-world engineering projects related to social innovation and global sustainable development and 2) prioritize (or at least give equal importance to) long-term project outcomes rather than simply focus on student learning outcomes. This special issue aims to curate proven practices and initiate larger conversations emerging from the work of engineering programs that engage students and faculty in the rigorous research, design, field-testing, and dissemination of technology-based solutions that address global development challenges. Whether partnering with departments on campus or communities in Appalachia, or striving to transform markets in Angola, these programs espouse diverse academic models, philosophies of engagement, and funding channels to deliver practical, sustainable, and scalable solutions to complex challenges including those related to food, energy, water, and health. Sustainability, in this context, refers to the notion that real solutions must be technologically appropriate, socially acceptable, environmentally benign, and economically sustainable. There is a recognition that ideas, presentations, and prototypes do not solve problems; the real challenge is in the implementation, assessment, and fast-paced pivoting to reach a higher sustainable equilibrium.
Interested authors should submit titles, a 200-word description of the course/program and its impacts, and 500-word abstracts of their contribution by October 15, 2018 to the guest editor, Khanjan Mehta at krm716@lehigh.edu. After an initial round of editorial reviews, we will invite full articles that will go through the standard AEE review process. Papers are expected to be between 5,000-10,000 words in length. Completed draft manuscripts will be due on February 28, 2019. The special issue is expected to be published in Spring 2020. Please save the date for a National Science Foundation-funded summit, Scalable Advanced Learning Ecosystems (SALE), to be hosted at The Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta on November 29-30, 2018.
This event will bring together leaders in higher education and educational technology from across the globe to brainstorm and strategize creating cost-effective, sustainable, and scalable educational environments, or, SALE — Scalable Advanced Learning Ecosystems.
This two-day summit will be hosted at the Global Learning Center (GLC) on Georgia Tech’s campus and will feature several invited speakers, who will facilitate conversations on personalized learning systems, intelligent tutoring systems, immersive learning environments, and data mining and learning analytics. The goal will be to craft a collective vision for institutions to combine these technologies with considerations for student engagement, research, and business models that that make up SALEs.
