The Mechanical Engineering Department within the College of Engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA invites applications for two (2) full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty appointments in the general area of mechanical engineering design. 4. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: LECTURER IN FIRST-YEAR ENGINEERING (9-MO FIXED-TERM (NON-TENURE TRACK)), GONZAGA UNIVERSITY
The School of Engineering and Applied Science at Gonzaga University is immediately seeking applications for a dynamic individual to assist with the new First-Year Engineering Program to start this Fall. Now in its second iteration, the two-semester course sequence covers engineering writing, design, and programming, and integrates key subjects such as entrepreneurship, sustainability and local engineering connections. The primary responsibility of this position would include teaching several sections of the Studio portion of the course, as well as working with current faculty on curriculum development. Extensive experience with MATLAB, and an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in engineering is required. While a Ph.D. is preferred, we are willing to accept applicants that are still in process of completing their graduate work. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

5. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: LECTURER IN CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, RENO
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer position in the area of Civil and Environmental Engineering, with an anticipated start of Fall 2018. This is a non-tenure track state-funded faculty position responsible for teaching up to 12 credit hours per semester, including core undergraduate courses and the department capstone courses. The incumbent will also participate in departmental activities such as undergraduate advising and overseeing the ABET undergraduate assessment and evaluation requirements. The appointment is for the academic year; however, summer support may be possible through teaching additional courses in the summer or assuming other department responsibilities.
A Master of Science degree in Civil, Environmental or a closely related engineering discipline is required (PhD preferred). Applicable professional design experience and a PE license is preferred. 6. POSITION ANNOUCEMENT: FACULTY POSITION IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING FOR EXTREME EVENTS
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a full professor in the area of structural engineering for extreme events. This full-time, tenured position includes teaching and research responsibilities, in addition to leadership of the structural engineering program.
The University of Nevada, Reno is experiencing unprecedented growth. Fifty new tenure-track and full-time instructional faculty will be added this coming year for a total of 217 new positions since 2013. Enrollment is expected to reach 22,000 students by 2020. Much of this growth is in engineering and science and a new, 90,000 sq. ft., engineering building is expected to open in 2020.
The structural and earthquake engineering program within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is one of the university’s premier research programs with nine academic faculty, two research faculty and approximately 35 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Its structural engineering laboratories are unique in the United States, and rank among the most advanced in the world. They comprise the 18,000 sq. ft. Large-Scale Structures Laboratory with 7,500 sq. ft. of strong floor space, and the 44,000 sq. ft. Earthquake Engineering Laboratory with 9,600 sq. ft. of strong floor space. The latter houses the only re-locatable, four-table array in the U.S. capable of simulating earthquakes for large-scale, system-level experiments. This array includes three, identical, 50-ton, biaxial shake tables, and a 50-ton, 6-degree-of-freedom shake table (https://www.unr.edu/cceer). A fifth shake table and laminar soil box is under construction for studying soil-structure interaction. When complete in summer 2018, it will be the second largest such facility in the world. In addition, a large family of servo-hydraulic actuators is available for hybrid experimentation. The candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent qualification, and an extensive research background in structural engineering. In particular, the candidate is required to have expertise in both computational structural mechanics and large-scale experimental methods related to structural resiliency under extreme events. In addition the candidate must have a national and international reputation for quality and breadth of research, a strong record of securing competitive research grants, leadership experience, and excellent communication skills. In addition to the above required qualifications, experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: shake table simulation, hybrid simulation, advanced materials, soil-structure-interaction, and high performance computing. Experience in innovative teaching is also desirable.

7. POST DOCTORAL TEACHING FELLOWSHIP IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION – INTERNATIONAL TEACHING EXPERIENCE, DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING, UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
We are seeking two post doctoral teaching fellows for a new collaboration between the University of Michigan (U-M) Department of Biomedical Engineering and Shantou University (Shantou, Guangdong Province, China). This “train the trainer” engineering education collaboration will lead to the development of the next generation, experiential biomedical engineering curriculum to meet 21st century challenges.
The primary responsibilities include learning how to develop and teach experiential undergraduate courses through active participation in U-M Center for Research in Learning and Teaching (CRLT) programming and the U-M BME Instructional Incubator. Fellows will be mentored by U-M instructors on the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor campus and then travel to Shantou University, where they will lead the development and launch of similar courses for the new Shantou University Biomedical Engineering Program. The goal of this collaboration is to introduce innovative, evidence based pedagogical practices into the Shantou classroom.
The fellows will be responsible for contributing to the development of course materials and developing assessment materials, holding office hours, grading, managing and class projects. Teaching will be in English. The fellows will also contribute to designing education research studies that evaluate the evolution of the introduction of experiential instruction in the Shantou curriculum, collecting data, data analysis and drafting manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication. Fellows will participate in collaborative meetings between instructors at U-M and Shantou University.
The project leadership includes U-M Professors Aileen Huang-Saad and Jan Stegemann. The fellows will be located at University of Michigan and Shantou University, shadowing U-M instructors in the classroom and launching U-M based curriculum at Shantou University. Successful fellows will have an opportunity to transition into a tenure track position at Shantou University.
Required: PhD degree in engineering from an accredited institution, related to biomedical engineering, or equivalent college teaching experience of biomedical engineering. A demonstrated ability to work/collaborate with others and work independently and desire to teach in hiring education.
